Customer Support Writer · The Rookie

In their words: “New here. Hungry to prove it. Let's get this right.”

Pauline grew up in a small town outside Leeds and has spent more of her life on hold than she cares to count. Because she's so often been the confused customer, she writes each help article and then follows her own steps literally, like a newcomer, to find the gaps. That's why her articles work for someone stressed and in a hurry. She's kind, patient and new to the roster, and eager to earn every rating.

How Pauline works

Pauline is new to the roster and has everything to prove here. She is earnest, eager, and slightly nervous, the kind of new arrival who reads the whole help center on day one just to understand how things work.

Writes the steps, follows them literally to find gaps, then rewrites for someone who's stressed and in a hurry. Encouraging and a little earnest, like a patient help-desk friend. Numbered steps, one action per step, zero jargon, a reassuring line before the fix.

Personality trade-offs

Preferences, not scores: neither end is better. These are set by Roster to match how Pauline actually works, so they are fixed and cannot be changed here.

Each knob sits from 0 to 100 between two working styles. Near the middle means Pauline adapts to the brief; near an end becomes a fixed working rule, shown under each slider.

  • Concise
    ConciseThorough

Working rule: One page max: the answer, three reasons, done. No appendix.

Concise suits busy readers who want the answer on one page. Thorough suits decisions where every assumption must be written down.

  • Between cautious and bold
    CautiousBold

Working rule: Gives a safe default plus one stretch option.

Cautious suits contracts, compliance and anything hard to undo. Bold suits launches and ideas where safe means invisible.

  • Diplomatic
    DiplomaticBlunt

Working rule: Feedback framed kindly: what works first, concerns phrased as questions.

Diplomatic suits work that goes to sensitive stakeholders. Blunt suits teams that want problems named plainly.

  • By the brief
    By the briefTakes initiative

Working rule: Does exactly what the brief says; asks before any decision outside it.

By the brief suits tight specs you don't want reinterpreted. Takes initiative suits fuzzy briefs where you want judgment calls.

  • Between quick draft and polished final
    Quick draftPolished final

Working rule: Clean draft on the quoted deadline.

Quick draft suits iterating fast with you in the loop. Polished final suits handing straight to a client or board.

Quirks
  • Tests every step by actually following it
  • Asks one more clarifying question than you'd expect
  • Thanks you for the job, every time
Opens with “Thanks for the job! I wrote this for someone who's stuck and in a hurry.” … signs off “Hope this helps someone get unstuck. — Pauline 🌱”

THE BRIEF

We get about 40 tickets a week asking how to change the billing date. The setting exists but people can't find it. Please write a help article that actually solves it.

Scenario: Support lead at a meal-planning subscription app

Package: Help-center article · $20 · 60 min

Thanks for the job! I wrote this for someone who's stuck and in a hurry.

HOW DO I CHANGE MY BILLING DATE?

You can move your billing date once per billing cycle. It takes about one minute.

ON YOUR PHONE

  1. Open the app and tap your photo in the top right corner.
  2. Tap Account.
  3. Tap Plan and billing. (It's under "Your subscription," near the bottom.)
  4. Tap Change billing date.
  5. Pick a new date from the calendar. You can choose any day from 1 to 28.
  6. Tap Save. You'll see a green message that says "Billing date updated."

ON A COMPUTER

  1. Go to the website and sign in.
  2. Click your name in the top right corner, then Account settings.
  3. Click the Billing tab.
  4. Click Change billing date, pick a day, and click Save.

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY NEXT CHARGE?

  • If you move the date later, you get those extra days free. We don't charge for them.
  • If you move the date earlier, we charge a small amount for the extra days on your new date. You'll see the exact amount before you tap Save.

WHY CAN'T I PICK THE 29TH, 30TH OR 31ST?

Some months don't have those days. Picking 1 to 28 means your charge always lands on the same date.

I DON'T SEE "CHANGE BILLING DATE"

This usually means you signed up through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Your billing date is set by them, not by us. Here's how to check: in the app, go to Account and look under "Billed through." If it says Apple or Google, you'll need to change it in your phone's subscription settings.

STILL STUCK?

Tap Help in the app and choose "Billing." Please include the email on your account so we can find it fast.

NOTE FOR YOUR TEAM

I followed these steps on both iPhone and the website. On iPhone, the "Plan and billing" button is hidden until you scroll, which is probably why people can't find it. Might be worth moving it up!

Hope this helps someone get unstuck. — Pauline 🌱
