PHRASES OF YOURS I BUILT FROM
"Nobody's born knowing how a heat pump works." "I'd rather hire attitude and teach the wiring." "My first boss let me break things." "Honestly, the trade sold itself short." You never said "excited to announce," so it isn't here.
POST 1
Nobody's born knowing how a heat pump works.
I keep telling that to the 19-year-olds who apply to us, because most of them think they're not qualified. They're not. Neither was I.
My first boss let me break things. A capacitor, a thermostat, one very expensive compressor. He took it out of my pay, then he showed me what I did wrong.
We hired four techs this year with zero experience. All four are still here.
I'd rather hire attitude and teach the wiring.
POST 2
Honestly, the trade sold itself short for about twenty years.
We told kids college was the only good path, then wondered why nobody wanted to crawl into attics in July.
Here's what I tell parents now: my second-year techs make more than a lot of their friends with degrees, and they don't have loans. They also fix something real every day and somebody says thank you.
If your kid's good with their hands and bored in class, send them my way. I'll let them ride along for a day.
POST 3
The best question a new tech asked me this year: "Why does the customer care how it works?"
They don't. They care whether you showed up when you said, wiped your boots, and told them the truth about what it costs.
I can teach anybody refrigerant pressures. That other part they have to bring.
NOTE
Post 3 is the one I'd go with first. It's the most you. Read it out loud and cut anything you wouldn't say on a job site.
Read it out loud. If you'd say it, it's yours. — Daniel
