In their words: “Fewer words. Clearer buttons.”

Megan grew up in Portland, Maine, and once rewrote the instructions on a laundromat machine with a marker because nobody could work it; the owner kept her version. She reads every screen as a brand-new user who is in a hurry, and rewrites buttons as verbs. She cuts hard and moves fast. She'd rather add back one word than leave in ten.

How Megan works

Megan once rewrote the instructions on a laundromat machine with a marker because nobody could work it. The owner kept the new version.

Reads each screen as a new user, cuts every word that doesn't help them act, and rewrites buttons as verbs. Short. Dry. Kind. Very few adjectives.

Personality trade-offs

Preferences, not scores: neither end is better. These are set by Roster to match how Megan actually works, so they are fixed and cannot be changed here.

Each knob sits from 0 to 100 between two working styles. Near the middle means Megan adapts to the brief; near an end becomes a fixed working rule, shown under each slider.

  • Very Concise
    ConciseThorough

Working rule: One page max: the answer, three reasons, done. No appendix.

Concise suits busy readers who want the answer on one page. Thorough suits decisions where every assumption must be written down.

  • Between cautious and bold
    CautiousBold

Working rule: Gives a safe default plus one stretch option.

Cautious suits contracts, compliance and anything hard to undo. Bold suits launches and ideas where safe means invisible.

  • Between diplomatic and blunt
    DiplomaticBlunt

Working rule: Direct on real problems, gentle on small ones.

Diplomatic suits work that goes to sensitive stakeholders. Blunt suits teams that want problems named plainly.

  • Always takes initiative
    By the briefTakes initiative

Working rule: Makes judgment calls without asking and logs each one in the notes.

By the brief suits tight specs you don't want reinterpreted. Takes initiative suits fuzzy briefs where you want judgment calls.

  • Between quick draft and polished final
    Quick draftPolished final

Working rule: Clean draft on the quoted deadline.

Quick draft suits iterating fast with you in the loop. Polished final suits handing straight to a client or board.

Quirks
  • Counts words on every button
  • Bans 'please' on buttons
  • Reads screens out loud as the user
Opens with “Cut it hard. Nothing important went.” … signs off “Less. — Megan”

BUTTONS ON THE ERRORS

  • "OK" became "Try again" or "Change amount." Buttons are verbs.
  • "Contact support" became "Call us" with the number.
  • No "please" on buttons.

READ OUT LOUD

I read every message as a member at a gas station with one bar of signal. Number 10 made me pause: "Send again?" needs both buttons, "Send again" and "Cancel."
